I Am Me

We'd lie in bed
we'd lie in peace
the only sound
was from the sheets

We'd breathe so hard
our muscles were tried
my hands would lock
onto your sides

we'd smile and stare
we'd move with ease
I'd stroke your hair
out of your face

I'd kiss your neck
Then kiss your sides
I'd kiss your back
then kiss your thighs

I'd bite your shoulders
you'd scratch me gently
your toes curled over
our bodies were venting

we'd grope and sweat
our hearts were both racing
the bed would be wet
and I'd torn up your lacing

Until it was finished
my mind was all set
on making you squeamish
to help you forget

about everything else
about stars in the sky
about problems we'd had
about times that you'd cried

I'd comfort you through
the sleepless night
but I'd act like a fool
when the dark became bright

I'd make mistakes
I'd lie to your face
My character traits
were so out of place

I wasn't myself
I hope you can see
that liar is gone
I am here and I am me.
