Putting the past behind you can be extremely difficult. But the past is a restraint that none of us need to rely on. The past does not determine what will happen in the future.
By dwelling on our past, we are hanging on the the very imperfections that were created by us in the past. Moving forward and tucking the past away, deep in our conscious minds, is one of the most powerful tools to achieving most anything. The past will forever be an enemy to us. Good or bad, fair or unfair, wonderful or miserable, our past must not be looked upon as a current determination of who we are or who we can become.
Dwelling on the past can also lead to future problems and frustrations with almost anything. To move on we must first establish that the past can never be erased. The next step is to forgive either yourself or whoever needs to put the past behind them needs to forgive and you/they need to look forward with no intentions on returning to the past even in your mind.
Just because something happened before, does not mean it must continue to happen. Just because you were treated unjust does not mean that the person that treated you unjustly will continue to do so. Over time, life will pull itself through and our past will ultimately become irrelevant to the future.
